In short, call ahead! We always strive to make sure your dog has a great experience at Doggie Oasis. Calling ahead to let us know your dog will be joining us for the day will ensure we'll always have enough staff to make sure your dog is happy, safe and tired when he's ready to go home at night. If you do have last minute plans, call anyway. That way, we'll be able to let you know if we have room for your dog before you make the trip! Lastly, if your plans change and your dog will miss their appointment, please call to let us know. This way we can make sure all dogs that want to play have the chance, and we won't have to charge for a no show.

Vaccinations

Doggie Oasis Day Care requires several vaccinations:

Rabies: at least every three years

Bordatella (Kennel Cough): every six months

Distemper-Parvo (DHPP): once a year (or every 3 years, per vet recommendation)

Checking on Fido During the Day

The best way to check on your dog while he is at day care is through our exclusive web cams at www.doggieoasis.com. You can actually watch your dog play and make new friends from your computer! You are also welcome to call to check on your dog while he is here. There are times when phone calls become quite constant, and we may not be able to answer every call. Your dog is always our top priority, and if you leave a message, we will call you back as soon as we can.

 Frequently asked questions:

 Q.        My dog came home with a cut on his body. Is this normal?

 A.        This can happen, depending on your dog’s play style. Some dogs like to wrestle pretty rough, and they may get scratched, scraped or cut during the process. Other dogs have very sensitive skin, and every little scratch will show up. We monitor the dogs at all times for safe play behavior, and will interrupt if we feel they are playing to rough. If there is ever a more serious injury, we will immediately call you and will not hesitate to take your dog to the veterinarian if needed.

 Q.        Can my dog become ill by spending time with other dogs?

 A.        Doggie Oasis takes every precaution to make sure we have healthy dogs in our care. We have strict vaccination requirements and clean and disinfect our facility regularly. However, just like with people, sicknesses can spread. The most common illness is Canine Cough. We have included a handout with more detailed information for you. However, if your dog is showing any symptoms, such as coughing, please leave him home and let us know right away.

Another illness common for dogs is the Papiloma virus, otherwise known as puppy warts. Puppy warts are normally found in the mouth area and are highly contagious. Puppy warts look just like you would expect a wart to look, and are common in puppies. Although it is rare for an adult dog to have puppy warts, it does happen. If you notice any growths on your dog’s mouth or in that area, leave him at home, and speak with your vet. Vets usually recommend that you either leave it to run its course (which could take anywhere from a few weeks to 6 months), or have them removed.

We have also included a hand out on Bloat. Bloat usually occurs in large dogs with deep chests such as Great Danes, Saint Bernards, Golden and Labrador Retrievers, Weimeraners, and Irish Setters. If you have a dog that is prone to bloat, or has bloated in the past, please alert the staff at Doggie Oasis so we can make sure to take any extra precautions.

In any case, if you are worried about your dog’s health for any reason, please consult with your veterinarian and alert the staff at Doggie Oasis. This will help us to keep all of our dogs here as healthy as possible.
